We have a friend who lives down here who comes by to volunteer with the horses because it makes her feel better. She's a survivor of a mass shooting in Salt Lake about ten years ago - one of the malls was shot up and she was hit - and when she was healthy she got out and came down here. So, Rosa is drenching us in rain. Don't mind me while I stay up all night, watching Brooklyn 99 (Oh how I love Jake) and checking to make sure the horses aren't flooded out every hour ...

I'm soaking wet and can't get dry. It's cool. I love pneumonia. ;)

The only good thing about the summer heat is my morning rides. I'm up before dawn and by the time I've done the round about the ranch, the sun is rising and the valley is bursting into color. It's so beautiful.

And then no one can do anything until sunset.

But dawn is perfect. It really is.

We'd thought about doing a BBQ but there's so much going on and honestly, it's like 900 degrees outside. So today, it's just the family. Trying to chill. Just being together.

Honestly, it's the best 4th I've had in a very long time.

I spent the weekend in Namibia, thinking about life and what I want to do with it. I found my way to the Skeleton Coast.

Only in Africa can you see a shipwreck in the middle of the desert. And you thought the movie Sahara was far-fetched.
